Evaluation of my work

When I first heard that we were doing ‘Wild Kingdom’, I was immediately excited about the project. I started from my blog and have been working on that throughout the project, im very happy without the outcome of my project, I tried to gather as much research as I could and tried to use various articles, photo shoots and music videos for inspiration. With my first shoot, I tried to mix in a high fashion look with the tribal look I was going for. To get inspiration for my high fashion look I looked at Vogue’s tribal related shoot and Rodarte’s famous 2010 show. I used Rodarte as inspiration for my first image. With my first shoot, I tried to focus most of the look on the makeup rather than the hair. I was then told to alter my look and do more work on the hair, I felt like I should've put more effort into the hair, this is something that I will take into consideration in my next project.

In this project I struggled at the beginning of it when looking for inspiration for my shoots. Once I started getting used to blogging, I got more and more into the project and became inspired for my shoots. I looked in music videos, photo shoots, Vogue magazines or anything that was tribal and related to my project theme. Throughout the project I also had to remember that my two shoots had to be different, one high fashion, one avant-garde. Overall, I think I've done well on this project, although there were a few factors I would have changed. I will take these factors into consideration on my next project.

Mood board editorial

This is my editorial mood board. As you can see these images have more of a tribal edge to them, their more out there and extravagant which is inspiration for my final editorial images. In my second shoot I want to include a lot more colours and objects to make it look more avant-garde.

Catwalk moodboard

This is my catwalk mood board. Ive used images that relate to what I want my final images to look like. I wanted my catwalk images to be more high fashion and tribal. I used some elements of tribal make up, but focussed the hair on being high fashion.

Timed Assessment

This is the face chart I received from my partner for our timed assessment. I was very excited to begin my work on her face chart as I wanted to see how my take on it would turn out. With this assessment I felt like it allowed me to open up and experiment with my makeup skills. Abi and I had discussed our assessment on Facebook and also on Skype. We both had models and I think my assessment went pretty well, I was very happy with the outcome. I had a few struggles during the assessment, my model had a full head of hair extensions so was quite difficult to put her hair in a high bun, I worked around the problem and figured out a way to pin up the hair to make it look as if it was a bun.

These are my final images for the assessment, the hair didn't look quite as the same as my partners did, however I found a way to make it look similar. As I had a darker skinned model, the makeup looked more vibrant. I used silver around the eyes, red eyelashes and used fullers each on the lips. I struggled with the neck pattern as I needed to make all the lines straight, but after trying numerous times, I was happy with the outcome.

These are my final images from my first shoot, which was my high fashion shoot. I took careful consideration in picking my model as I wanted her to look like she had some sort of interesting mix in her. I practiced the look before I had started it on her, as you can see in previous posts there are images of the look being practiced on myself. I think my look went pretty well and I tried to use all factors of my research and inspiration to help me with my look. At first, because my shoot was high-fashion, I slicked my models hair back. After some words with Sharon I decided to make the hair a bit more wild by slicking it straight up, if I could change one thing about my look it would be to have put more consideration into the hair as I did the face. But overall I think my look went well, I've taken into consideration next time to not only just focus on the makeup but also the overall look.

High fashion face charts

These are a few of my face charts that I've included into my sketchbook. With my first one, I wanted to focus more of the makeup onto my models face rather than her eyes. This is because with the tribal research that I've collected, I've never noticed much makeup around the eyes. I tried to use bold colours in all of my face charts and tried to experiment with as many different styles/looks as I could. I chose to contour the cheeks with red and to take the red up to m models forehead. I wanted her eyebrows cold but half blocked out, I thought this would give me bait of a challenge. I would use this look for my high fashion shoot as it is quite plain and simple.

Vogue March 2010 Inspiration for high fashion

This is Vogues March 2010 shoot, and perfect inspiration for my high fashion photo shoot. I absolutely fell in love with these images when I found them, I feel like they have mixed the tribal theme into high fashion perfectly. I love how plain they have kept the makeup on her face and focused mainly on the styling and body. The body art symbolises tribal shapes straight away, and I like the contrast with the high fashion styling and the 'jungle lie' background.

Practice make-up

These are some practice shots of lion king inspired make up. I took some ideas from the lion king programme and incorporated them into my own ideas. I looked at the colours used on stage, they were mainly reds, blues and yellows. I used block colours because I didn't want them to blend, instead I wanted them to contrast with eachother and stand out. I was bored in my room, so I thought id roughly experiment a bit with my make up. Looking through the programmes, I gathered inspiration and decided on a look for my final shoot. I also tried to experiment with the lips by doing an ombre look on them. I used red on the outside and white/yellow on the inner lips.

My Lion King programme/inspired hair, makeup and costume

    

As you can see, these are images that I have taken from my Lion king programmes. As soon as I watched the show, the hair, make up and costume has immediately inspired me, this is why I am so excited to create my final looks for Wild Kingdom. Whilst watching the show, I kept on thinking how they came up with such ideas, the hair and make-up looked flawless and you felt as if it wasn't people on stage, but actual animals. Ive tried some of the make-up out on myself, and its made me so motivated and driven to make my final outcome amazing. Ive tried to incorporate the inspiration from the lion king  into my high fashion and avant-garde shoots. When the show begun, I immediately noticed the colours used. The colours were very warm, the main colours were reds, yellows and blues. I took this into account when practicing my look.
